Matchbox – Rockabilly made in Britain
British band Matchbox is one of the most important acts of the late 1970s and early 1980s rockabilly revival. With hits like Rockabilly Rebel, Midnite Dynamos and When You Ask About Love, they achieved chart success not only in the UK but all across Europe.
Formed in 1971 in Middlesex, England, Matchbox was inspired by the original American 1950s rockabilly sound, but added a fresh and energetic production style. Their look – quiffs, leather jackets and upright bass – captured the spirit of the era and made them a fixture in the scene. Lead singer Graham Fenton and a rotating lineup of top-notch musicians helped define the band’s signature sound.
Matchbox remain active to this day, thrilling rock’n’roll fans around the world with authentic live shows, new releases, and the timeless spirit of rockabilly.
