But the most famous pair of brothers in rhythm and blues never played together and never recorded together. Their careers in R&B were strangely different, and those paths rarely crossed, even after they recorded for the same record label.
While Joe Liggins excelled at songwriting and arranging for his smooth big-band style, younger brother Jimmy filled his songs and records with his love of electric blues. He was as prolific a songwriter as Joe, but his songs were earthier and more reminiscent of his Southern roots. his inspiration was all around him.
