What would have happened, if piano-ace Roy Hall hadn't protected young biblestudent Jerry? Parts of our today's music history might have not happened, no pumping or burnig instruments, lesser scandals. 

Although: It is clear, that Jerry borrowed parts of his apearance and show from 40's keymen like Maurice Rocco or Harry 'the Hipster' Gibson. After a short while at SUN-Records in Memphis, he recorded Halls' "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On". His stageshow was the most concerning wildness, as in his shows, his personal life was quite similar and even today, there are still rumors allaround about it.

The recordings on this platter were first issued during his early years at SUN. Everybody knows the legendary London-Records EPs from Great Britain, but still a few know the South African 10" with these tracks. It would have been only the black keys of the Pumping Piano, if not 'Pumping Piano Rock' would have been included as a bonus track. Simply play the disc and let it go ... but loud!


This twenty-one-year-old from Memphis, Tennessee, is absolutely spontaneous in his showmanship. When he sings, it's with abandon and enthusiasm, and the way he gives himself to a song makes the outcome so personal it's almost embarrassing. Whether he is performing for the microphone alone, or thousands of people, Jerry Lee puts on a fantastic per-formance! He likes to play and sing almost anything—from rock and roll to spirituals, and in each type of song his magnetism is Inescapable. This electrifying element that pulls and holds audiences was given witness to by a fan, who wrote, "I play your record over and over again until the record player gets too hot. Then I take it over to a neighbour's house, and we play it some more."
