Hailing from Rouen, the musicians of the rock'n'roll quartet Jerry Lease, which is making more and more headlines, did not wait for the death of their mentor, the legendary Jerry Lee Lewis aka The Killer, on October 28 at the age of 87, to form this wild combo in which the piano, like Jerry Lee, occupies an important place.
Although the band was formed relatively recently (2020), the four cheerful guys do not take themselves too seriously, but carry the rock'n'roll as seriously as possible. They emphasize their own DNA and personal touch, but also strictly adhere to a certain orthodoxy of rock'n'roll, which they were cradled with the boogie of the inevitable Jerry Lee, the last fireball, the ultimate pioneer, between myth and excess.
It contains 13 tracks, 11 original compositions and 2 cover versions of Jerry Lee Lewis It'll Be Me and Hank Williams Jambalaya On The Bayou. The first cover version, composed by Jack Clément, dates from April 1957 and was on the B-side of the single SUN Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On. For information, Johnny Hallyday had done a French version of the song under the title Ma Chérie, C'est Moi (1975 album Rock à Memphis). As for the second cover version, it is a standard by Hank Williams from 1952, inspired by a traditional Cajun tune. There are a variety of arrangements of this classic, including Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison or Dick Rivers in a sublime French version. A highly recommended album and a band that should be urgently experienced live, because Jerry Lease is the antithesis of the prevailing neurasthenia and artistic and rock'n'rollesque resignation.
