Doyle Lawson, Sänger und einer der versiertesten Mandolinenspieler des Bluegrass Genres, wurde von Bill Monroe beeinflusst und entwickelte dann schon sehr früh einen eigenen Stil. Er spielte in den Bands von Jimmy Martin und J.D.Crowe ehe er 1971 Jimmy Gaudreau bei den Country Gentlemen ablöste. 1979 gründete Doyle Lawson seine eigene Band „Quicksilver“ mit Terry Cleveland Baucum, Jimmy Wayne Haley und Lou Reid, alle aus North Carolina Die Gruppe hat im Verlauf der Jahre immer wieder die Besetzung gewechselt, am Stil und an der Qualität hat sich dank der Erfahrung und dem Können von Bandleader Doyle Lawson wenig geändert.
