The American roots singer and songwriter from Mid-Coast Maine - Pokey Lafarge - presents his 10th album "Rhumba Country".
For this new work, LaFarge developed a kaleidoscopic sound that combines mambo, tropicália, rocksteady and mid-century American rock'n'roll.
The album, produced by Chris Seefried and Elliot Bergman and recorded in L.A., is an invitation to celebrate life and love.
After spending the last half-decade traveling across the country in search of home, Pokey LaFarge found his home in Mid-Coast Maine. Upon his arrival, the Illinois-born singer, songwriter and actor fundamentally changed his life by working 12-hour days on a local farm - a local farm - a turn of events that sparked an extraordinary burst of creativity and redefined his purpose as an artist.
"Rhumba Country" was originally sculpted from materials found while LaFarge was immersed in farm labor. "I'd be pushing a plow or spreading seed, and the songs would just come to me," he recalls. "It was tremendously inspiring and made me realize that, next to singing, farming is perhaps the oldest human art form."
