B.B. King is probably the most famous artist in the world. With his incomparable musical talent, combined with a personality that radiates generosity. Intelligence and professional pride, he has conquered the world. In 1966, Charles Keil (author of Urban Blues) wrote: "B.B. King is the only pure blood singer in America with a large, adult, nationwide and almost exclusively Negro audience. "If 'pure' and 'authentic' apply to any Bloss singer today, they certainly apply to O.B. King." Keil based this strong statement on the fact that B.B. was still singing for the black audience he had always had, and that he had not changed his music to get engagements at white colleges or jazz festivals, or to fit the teenage market. Until 1968/69, when B.B. first came into contact with the masses of white music lovers in the U.S. and Europe. Keil's testimony is indisputable. But even after that time, B.B.'s musical and artistic profile has remained essentially the same, even though many of his later records contain "experiments" and B.B. said in a recent interview, "... you either change with the sounds or you stand in front of empty stands ... "1 But in the same interview he also said, "The blues is blues. They don't change. But sounds do change."
