Cody Johnson is one of the Texans who have made the career leap from their home state to the country music metropolis of Nashville. And they have done so without having abandoned their identity as representatives of a style of music that is oriented toward the roots. Now Cody Johnson has released his latest work. It is his second with a major record company (Warner) in said Nashville. He has recorded 18 tracks and calls the whole thing Human - The Double Album.

The result, it should be anticipated, is simply class. There are amazingly many beautiful ballads, such as When It Comes To You and the title song Human to the current chart success Til You Can't, which is already at number 41. Also convincing is his hymn to the beloved woman he sings about with Made A Home. For his daughter Cori, he sang how much the boy who will once win Cori's favor can rejoice: God Bless The Boy (Cori's Song). His love song Stronger also belongs to this category.

But there is also Honky Tonk Sound at its best: As the title says Honky Tonk Hard Wood Floor or even in the fiddle dominated Known For Lovin' You. Uptempo and encouraging to sing along is the groovy Let's Build A Fire. Vince Gill has written Son Of A Ramblin' Man and the bluegrass influence is not to be ignored, even if discreet.
