At the beginning of the 1980s, The Jam were the most successful British singles band. They achieved a total of five number one singles, the first being "Going Underground", which along with "Town Called Malice" is probably their best known release. When the band broke up, this was one of the few singles to be re-released in early 1983, reaching the top 40 in the UK charts with three re-releases in one go. These were "Beat Surrender", "Going Underground" and "All Around The World". Apart from The Beatles, The Jam are the only band in the UK to have simultaneously played both sides of an AA release live on the BBC music program "Top Of The Pops", with the 1981 No. 1 single "Town Called Malice/Precious".
