In the 1950s, Lynn Hope was a controversial figure in black America as the "Amazing Man with a Turban." He was often quoted in reports, and his behavior puzzled some and inspired others. As a musician, he was more conventional, and his playing style was aimed at an audience that preferred the mellow sounds of Earl Bostic to the tenor saxophone screamers and honkers of the day.
