Aashid Himons (1942-2011) is one of those radical pioneers who keep popping up in music history. Perhaps best known today as the dreadlocks frontman of the blues-reggae group Afrikan Dreamland, one can trace the path of this dazzling musical innovator from the doo-wop of the late '50s, through his '60s R'n'B work as Little Archie (ironic, since he was over six feet tall), to the reggae fusions that made him an eternal cult figure, to all manner of cosmic electronic excursions.
For more than five decades, until his death, he wrote his own chapter in this book. Not one of great fame or success, but of unwavering personal vision,
deep spiritual conviction, and extraordinary musical genius.
The two tracks here were originally released in 1984 under his solo name Aashid on the album Kosmik Gypsy. The Gods & I, a robotic reggae-disco crossover, is heard here in both its original version and Fyraften's remastered version. In A Figga Of Speech is an eccentric piece of shaky, stoner electro.
