In memory of the Czech artist and his work, the best-of album "Danke Karel!" is now available as a deluxe double CD, as well as a five-CD showcase of his work.
The standard CD contains 20 of Karel Gott's greatest hits, including classics like "Lady Carneval", "Once Around the Whole World", "Babicka", "Do You Know Where To", "Maya the Bee", "Catch the Light" (with Darinka) and the ARD television lottery song "And the Sun Will Shine Again". A highlight is also the song "Srdce nehasnou", which the singer had recorded together with his daughter Charlotte Ella Gottová only shortly before his death. All songs have been completely remastered for "Danke Karel!

Der Moldau-Caruso (geboren am 14. Juli 1939 in Pilsen) hat sich neben seinen massenwirksamen Hits wie Weißt du wohin, Einmal um die ganze Welt oder Die Biene Maja auch immer wieder an Umbauten internationaler Pop-Hits versucht. Rot und Schwarz(das Original Paint It, Black war 1966 der sechste Nr.-1-Hit der Rolling Stones in England) ist auf der LP 'In mir klingt ein Lied' enthalten, den deutschen Text besorgte der vielbeschäftigte Schlagerlyriker Hans Korn: "Die rote Tür/ich male sie ab heute schwarz" hinterläßt bis ins Jahr 2006 die Frage: Warum "ab heute"? Wie lange soll Karel denn daran pinseln?! Wie riesengroß ist diese Tür? Egal. Ein Pußta-Geiger fidelt wie um sein Leben, der Song geht raketenmäßig ab, und Gott kriegt sich hochdramatisch kaum noch ein. Das Resultat erinnert weniger an das Stones-Original als an die englische Cover-Version aus dem Hals von Chris Farlowe.
