The somewhat out of time band Girl was formed in 1979 and rose to prominence in January 1980 with their debut LP "Sheer Greed". Featuring vocalist Phil Lewis, guitarists Gerry Laffy and Phil Collen and Gerry's brother Simon on bass, they rocked hard enough to capitalize on the burgeoning New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement that was sweeping the UK, a scene spearheaded by Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard. Although it's fair to say that her good looks and make-up made her a big influence on the 'hair metal' bands of the mid-1980s, but not necessarily on the jeans and leather brigade of NWOBHM that was prevalent at the time.
