Dizzy Gillespie, whose trademarks were the upwardly bent trumpet and the thickly inflated cheeks, is one of the greats of jazz. Besides Charlie Parker, Gillespie is regarded as the inventor of a genre of jazz music: BeBop.

In 1978, Gillespie and his band, a quartet consisting of the young Rodney Jones on guitar, Benjamin Brown on electric bass and Mickey Roker on drums, made guest appearances in one of the most legendary clubs in the world at the time, the Hamburg-based ONKEL PÖ. The star trumpeter, who in those years also dealt with the modern rhythms of funk, burned down a real musical firework with his young band.

In the second half of the concert, we experience saxophonist Leo Wright as a special guest. The guests at Uncle Pö raved.
