It would probably not be an exaggeration to describe this album as the most influential Brazilian album of all time. Originally released in 1959, Chega de Saudade is the album that is considered to have invented bossa nova, and to say that it sparked a fire in the music world would be an understatement.

It might be more accurate to say that it influenced so many musicians both domestically (Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, etc.) and abroad (Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd) that it practically single-handedly changed the way people make and listen to music and put Brazilian artists on the map. Almost every song on this album has become a standard.
