Billy Fury

Als Ronald Wycherly am 17.4.1941 in Liverpool geboren, hatte er seinen ersten großen Auftritt 1958. Billy Fury war ins Essoldo Kino gegangen, um den damals in England berühmten Marty Wilde zu sehen, schlich sich in seine Garderobe und sang mit ihm zusammen ein paar Lieder. Veranstalter Larry Parnes gefiel seine Stimme und Art des Auftretens und schickte ihn noch am selben Abend auf die Bühne. Der Auftritt klappte, Billy Fury kam gut an und bekam einen Vertrag für eine Tournee. Anfang 1959 erschien seine erste Platte „Maybe Tomorrow' und wurde ein Hit.

Bis 1965 plazierte Billy Fury sich 20mal in der englischen Hitparade, konnte sich aber ähnlich wie auch Adam Faith nie außerhalb Englands durchsetzen. Seine größten Erfolge waren „Halfway to Paradise“ (1961), „In Summer' (1963) und „It's only make believe' (1964). Bis 1960 trat er als Elvis-Plagiat auf, mußte sich dann aber umstellen, da ihm die Ordnungsbehörden mit Konzertsperre drohten. Seitdem singt er auch seine dramatischen Balladen. 1973 wirkte er in dem Film „That'll be the Day' als einer der Hauptdarsteller mit. 1974 erschien die Single „I'll be your Sweethart' - ein Comeback in den Hitparaden gelang ihm damit jedoch nicht.
