David Gordon Kirkpatrick, genannt Slim Dusty, gilt noch heute als der populärste australische Country Sänger mit unzähligen Singles und L.P.s. Sein „Pub With No Beer“ ging 1958 als Riesenhit um die ganze Welt.

David Gordon Kirkpatrick (1927-2003) wuchs als Fan von Jimmie Rodgers auf und nahm seinen Künstlernamen Slim Dusty an, als er gerade 11 Jahre alt war. Mit 15 Jahren sprach er für Regal Zonophone vor, wobei einer seiner Songs eine Melodie von Jimmie Rodgers war. Leider lehnte ihn das Label ab, und Dusty schnitt zum Trost 25 "Prozess"-Scheiben. 1946 verwirklichte er schließlich sein Ziel und machte seine ersten kommerziellen Platten für Regal Zonophone im Alter von 19 Jahren. 1951 heiratete er Joy McKean von den McKean Sisters, und die beiden begannen eine äußerst erfolgreiche Zeltshow, die ab 1954 durch Australien tourte. Dustys Aufnahme von A Pub With No Beer sollte zu einer der meistverkauften Platten aller australischen Künstler werden. Als er 2003 an Krebs starb, war er gerade dabei, sein 106. Album aufzunehmen. Weltruhm erlangte Dusty durch den Gesang der Waltzing Matilda während der Abschlusszeremonie der Olympischen Sommerspiele 2000 in Sydney. Any Old Time, wurde 1954 mit Dick Carr und seinen Buckaroos aufgenommen.
