(Bear Family Records) 11 tracks - Recorded at the Gold Star Recording Studio, Hollywood, California in May 1972.

By the early 1960s Tommy had tired of the road just as Bob Nolan had fourteen years earlier. Late in 1963 Tommy left the group and returned to his home in Imnaha, Oregon where he opened a general store. Although he had retired from the Pioneers, Tommy continued to record with them through the end of 1967. He filled in on a few brief tours before finally calling it quits. Since then the public has had little opportunity to hear Tommy's fine voice.

That situation was almost remedied in 1972. In April of that year a reunion of all Pioneers from the group's first forty years was held at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Each Pioneer performed and Tommy's appear-ance was one of the evening's highlights. His voice was as rich and mellow as ever. While in Los Angeles, Tommy recorded eleven songs for a solo album. Unfortunately, it has taken all this time for those songs to see the light of day. But, at last, we finally have some new recordings from Tommy Doss.

geb. 26. 9. 1920 in Weiser - ldaho Record Labels: Crystal, Bear Family Der Sänger Tommy Doss begann Ende der 30er Jahre zusammen mit seinem Bruder und einem Freund die bekannten Songs der Sons Of The Pioneers zu interpretieren. 1947 hatte er durch einen glücklichen Zufall die Chance, bei Bob Wi1ls'Texas Playboys als Ersatz für Tommy Duncan einzusteigen. Er tourte einige Monate mit Bob Wills und stieg dann bei Luke Wills'Rhythm Busters ein und während einer Aufnahmesitzung bei RCA stellte der Produzent erstaunt fest, daß Tommy Doss ja fast genauso klingt wie Bob Nolan von den Sons Of the Pioneers.

1948 fand sich Tommy Doss dann bei der Ole Ras- mussen Band bis ihn Mitte 1949 Tim Spencer anrief und ihm anbot als Ersatz für Bob Nolan bei den Sons Of The Pioneers einzusteigen. Ein Jugendtraum von Tommy Doss wurde wahr. Genau am 15. 7. 1949 stieß Tommy Doss in Helena - Montana zu den Sons Of The Pioneers und blieb bei der Gruppe bis Ende 1963. Da Bob Nolan bei zahlrei- chen Aufnahmesitzungen auch nach 1949 noch mit dabei war, ist es für den Zuhörer auch heute noch beim Abhören mancher Platten schwierig zu sagen, ob nun Bob Nolan oder Tommy Doss mitsingt. Die Stimmen waren einfach zu ähnlich.

^Mit der Rasmussen Band hat Tommy Doss Ende der 40er Jahre ein paar Aufnahmen für das Label Crystal eingespielt. lm Mai 1972 nahm er elf Songs für eine geplante L.P.s auf, doch erst 15 Jahre später, im Mai 1987, wurde die Produktion auf Bear Family veröffentlicht.
