Johnny Desmond: Johnny Desmond Swings (CD)

(Good Time Records) 12 tracks

Johnny Desmond Swings, recorded for the Tops label in 1958, is a loose and relaxed session that has become an elusive and sought-after jazz gem. It shows how the big band singer from his childhood days developed into a fully-fledged jazzman with the character and composure of the young Dean Martin. Remastered for 2022 and featuring the hits “I Can't Get Started” and “That Old Devil Moon”, this is a deliberately relaxed and easy-going album that highlights Desmond's natural, unforced vocal style that is as appreciated and understood today as when it was first released.
