Four albums from Gail Davies appearing on CD for the first time. Including 13 charting singles from the early 1980s. Gail Davies was born Patricia Gail Dickerson on 5th June 1948 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Beginning her career as a session singer in Los Angeles, she added her voice to recordings by Hoyt Axton, Neil Young and Glen Campbell. She was befriended by Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris, toured with Roger Miller and briefly sought out a career as a jazz singer.

In the mid-1970s Davies moved to Nashville and after a succession of chart recordings in the early 1980s she raised the bar for females in Country Music with her songwriting and production skills. Henry Lewy, from her time in LA, was her influence in music production, helping her to establish herself as one of country's most influential females. She was the first woman to be credited with taking control of her own music and producing her own albums.

Like Waylon and Willie before her, she presented her music, her way. 'The Game' (1980), the first album featured in this collection, produced three chart singles. 'I'll Be There' (1981) features three Top 10 singles. 'Givin' Herself Away' (1982) contained four chart singles and featured legendary guitarist Albert Lee, bassist Leland Sklar and pianist Bill Payne. 'What Can I Say' (1983) contained three chart singles.

Ihr Stiefvater, dessen Nachname Davies sie später annahm, spielte oft die Platten von Hank Williams, Webb Pierce, Patsy Cline und Carl Smith. Gail Davies wollte Sängerin werden, doch zunächst musste sie sich mit der Funktion einer Backup-Sängerin begnügen.

Sie sang in Clubs und bei Contests, ihr Stimme wurde besser und sie kam in Kontakt mit Leuten wie Hoyt Axton, Roger Miller und Paul WilIiams. An der Westküste meinte man, ihre Stimme sei zu country für die L.A. Szene. Sie müsste nach Nashville gehen und dies tat sie dann auch, nur, in Nashville stellte man lakonisch fest, ihre Stimme sei nicht genug Country. Das war 1975.

Zurück in Los Angeles heiratete Gail Davies 1978 den Komponisten Richard Allen, der mit Hilfe seines Verlags in Nashville Gail Davies mit Tommy West von CBS bekannt machte. Und so kam Gail Davies zu ihrem ersten Schallplattenvertrag mit Lifesong - Epic. Der Erfolg stellte sich rasch ein und hielt auch einige Jahre an. Inzwischen ist es allerdings wieder recht ruhig um Gail Davies geworden.
