After one of the most surprising comebacks in recent psychobilly history in 2007, Mad Dog Cole had been pretty quiet for the last five years. It was rumored that he had once again strayed behind the psychobilly horizon and strayed from the path of rocking (un)grace. Now it's safe to say that the former Krewmen singer has simply taken his time to work on the material for his follow-up release and find a line-up that suits him best. Son Of Satan consists of twelve brand new tracks recorded at Western Star Studio, with Alan Wilson himself responsible for perfecting the production and polishing the sound.

The whole affair impresses with an ever-present straightforward psychobilly feel throughout the album, solid variations on the theme and healthy tempo changes with arguably one of the genre's most notable voices always in the thick of the action. With all that said, this is the lost album of the McMillan/Cole era rather than a 21st century product with traditional psychobilly sounds spiced up with a fat rhythm section that now includes Mark's former old bandmate Dominic Parr back on drums, a decently sharp and twitchy guitar from the newly acquired Lee Gorrïnge, catchy melodies and a super-tight sound throughout. Songs like "The Darkness", "Son Of Satan", "Better Off Dead", "Did I Make You Scared" and "Captain Black" cement that this Crazy Love release is not only an essential part of this year's psychobilly panorama, but also a clear message to all non-believers that "you can be sure... that the mental Mad Dog's back!".
