The Climax Chicago Blues Band: Hands Of Time (LP)
(On Stage) 8 tracks
For a long time it has been quiet concerning new releases of the Climax Bluesband. The current line-up, which after numerous reshuffles no longer has a founding member, finally gives with "Hands Of Time" a musical sign of life with new songs and continues the over 50-year band history.
The band is reflecting on the instrumental structure that has already proven itself in the past and its own groove. The charismatic frontman Graham Dee captivates the listener with his haunting, slightly scratchy, but very clear voice during the songs. The pieces have mostly clear rhythm structures, which are in the range of blues to rock, partly with soulful influences, mostly in midtempo. Interspersed are also some ballads that can bring the listener to dream and once again prove the expressiveness of Dee's voice.
The basis for the compact sound is laid by Neil Simpson on bass and Roy Adams on drums, who have been playing in the band for over 30 years.
Adding a special touch to the distinctive sound are the band's veterans, Lester Hunt on guitar and George Glover on keyboards. Hunt with rhythm work and clearly played interspersed solos renounces superfluous frills, but prefers clear tones, while Glover not only underlines the songs with sound carpets, but also convinces with furious and sensitive lead work on the keyboards and piano.
However, fresh wind has certainly breathed into the band the already mentioned Graham Dee on vocals and Chris Aldridge on saxophone and harmonica, who joined the band only in 2012. Aldridge, with strong sax solos, is at times a congenial partner to Hunt on guitar.
A refreshing songwriting, which is oriented to the band's history, has breathed new life into the Climax Blues Band again, which ties in with the band's successful times and will not only find favor with the die-hard fans of the Brits.
With "Hands Of Time" the band has in any case produced an impressively varied album without musical gap fillers, which shows the musical strength of the band and proves that they want to really take off again. The purchase of the new work will certainly shorten the waiting time for an upcoming tour for the fans and probably even intensify the eager waiting for it.

"The Climax Chicago Blues Band"
Original Presse-Info: RCA Schallplatten GmbH
