In 1986, after almost 30 years with Columbia Records, country music legend Johnny Cash released his first album on Mercury Records - Class Of '55, in collaboration with former Sun Records colleagues Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

While the album was in part a tribute to Elvis Presley, it was above all a commemoration of the young, hopeful performers, the four participants in the album, who all, like Presley, began their careers at Sun Records in the 1950s. The album, which was recorded at Sun Studios by Sam Phillips and completed at American Sound Studios, was originally released on May 26, 1986.

The LP re-release contains remastered soundtracks for the first time, using the original Mercury master tapes. The re-release of the LP is pressed on 180 g vinyl to ensure the highest quality and fidelity of sound.
