An exquisite pairing of talent, sense of spontaneity and spiritual connection distinguishes the duo of Carla Olson and Gene Clark. Olson's strident and powerful vocals harmonize beautifully with Clark's slightly world-weary, soulful delivery. Clark contributes one of his best later compositions, Gypsy Rider, a multi-layered song that can easily be considered autobiographical. Chemistry is the operative word here.

The only sad thing is that So Rebellious a Lover would be the duo's only studio work before Clark passed away in 1991. This record is important not only for what it is, but for what else could have followed it.
