After a recording break of more than four years, singer / songwriter Rosanne Cash is back with her new album for a new label. With her husband and longtime songwriting partner John Leventhal, Rosanne Cash penned eleven wonderful, brand new songs for her Blue Note Records debut “The River & The Thread”. John Leventhal also assisted her as arranger, guitarist and producer. Rosanne Cash's last album “The List”, released in 2009, was nominated for two Grammys and was also named Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. Rosanne Cash and John Leventhal also met up with good friends and musical companions during the recording sessions, people who - like themselves - have a deep affection for the South and/or have their roots there: Cory Chisel, Cash's first husband Rodney Crowell (who also co-wrote a song), Amy Helm, Kris Kristofferson, Allison Moorer, John Prine, Derek Trucks, John Paul White (The Civil Wars), Tony Joe White and Gabe Witcher (The Punch Brothers). “We dreamed of the Tallahatchie Bridge, and we actually found it,” says Rosanne Cash, alluding to Bobbie Gentry's 1967 smash hit ‘Ode To Billie Joe’, probably the world's most famous ‘Southern Gothic’ song classic. Rosanne Cash now undertakes her own fascinating journey through the southern USA on “The River & The Thread”, conjuring up its mythical spirit. 'When the singer and songwriter once again turns her attention to the South on her fabulous Blue Note debut (...), it is certainly not to glorify it. The Dixieland myth is by no means irrefutable for Rosanne Cash, rather it is shown in all its contradictions in very personal songs between old-school country, folk, gospel and delta blues.' Rosanne Cash, eine der Töchter aus Johnny Cash's erster Ehe, hatte zunächst etwas Startprobleme im Music Business. Der deutsche Schlagersänger Bernie Paul, richtiger Name Bernd Vonficht, hatte 1978 die erste L.P. der Rosanne Cash für Ariola in typisch deutscher Machart produziert. Die Cash schimpft noch heute über die, Germans In Munich, die ihr diese hausbackene Produktion mit auf den Weg gaben. Erst die zweite L.P., produziert 1979 in Kalifornien von Ehemann Rodney Crowell, brachte erste Erfolge. Dann 1981, der Durchbruch und Rosanne Cash's bislang bestes Jahr mit gleich drei No. 1 Erfolgen: ,Seven Year Ache,My Baby Thinks He`s A Train und ,Blue Moon With Heartache."
