Originaire de l'Arkansas, Glen Campbell est souvent considéré comme un chanteur de country. Cependant, son œuvre, qui s'étend sur plus de cinq décennies, couvre une grande variété de styles musicaux.

Le concert présenté ici, donné en 1990 au « Dome » de Doncaster, où il est accompagné par le Jeff Dayton Band, contient des extraits de la carrière de Campbell, en commençant par le début des années 60 et le tube américain « Rhinestone Cowboy » et en terminant par le gagnant d'un Grammy Award « Gentle On My Mind ».

Sa collaboration avec le compositeur Jimmy Webb sur «Galveston», «By The Time I Get To Phoenix», «Highwayman» et «Wichita Lineman» est également au programme du concert, tout comme son deuxième tube américain «Southern Nights» d'Allen Toussaint.

Un medley des Beach Boys ne doit bien sûr pas manquer, puisqu'il a été pendant un temps le chanteur de cette formation légendaire. Alzheimer a malheureusement mis fin à sa carrière musicale, mais les chansons de Glen Campbell continuent de vivre.

Glen Campbell

American singer who became famous through film music. Born on 22.4.1939 in Delight (Arkansas) as the seventh son of a farming family. Already in his parents' house music was played all the time. The first money Glen Campbell earned as a cotton picker.

In 1962 Glen Campbell went to Hollywood and got a job as a studio musician, where he accompanied Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin. In 1967 he had his first great successes with "By the Time I get to Phoenix' and "Gentle on my mind'. For these world hits in country sound he also received the highest award of the American music business, the Grammy. His music to the films "True Grit' and "Norwood' underlined his reputation as one of America's best young composers and musicians. "Galveston', "Wichita Lineman' and "Where's the Playground Susie' were the songs that made him famous in Germany in 1969. Then he retired to his villa in Laurel Canyon and it became quieter around him. In 1975, however, he made a more than brilliant comeback with "Rhinestone Cowboy'.
