There's a young Norwegian blues guitar player that's producing some rumor in the bay area's blues scene. His name is Chris 'The Kid' Andersen (check out his solo debut, and his great work on RJ Mischo's new CD on CrossCut). Late in 2004 he had the idea for a new record. Fellow Norwegian Vidar Busk had produced a series of great blues records in the 1990s - and it turned out that Junior Watson ('The Kid' is one of his most serious admirers) was a fan of Vidar Busk's guitar playing. The idea of a joint production in San Francisco was born. Vidar flew in from Europe. They wrote most of the songs in one night in a funky apartment, the remaining songs were delivered by Junior from his inexhaustible fund of obscure blues pearls (check out his co-work with Lynwood Slim on CrossCut ccd 11059). No cockfight, but a friendly atmosphere produced this excellent set of traditional style blues. And of course a lot of great playing and soloing. Highly recommended.
