Who was/is Brigade Feuerstein ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Brigade Flintstone

"Hoywoy, we are faithful to you," it says in a song by Gerhard Gundermann. By 'Hoywoy' we mean Hoyerswerda, a city where the singer-songwriter scene is still at home today. In 1967 a singing club was founded here, which was musically influenced by the brothers Jürgen, Udo and Ulrich Magister until 1970. Gerhard Gundermann joined in 1971 and wrote his first songs in 1972.

In 1978 the group changed its name to Brigade Feuerstein ('Feuerstein' = name for brown coal) to make it clear that it was no longer a singing club but a song theatre. Numerous productions emerged in the following years, including 'Geschichten aus dem Koraktor' (1978) and 'Arbeiter macht Arbeitermacht' (1983). Text author was almost exclusively Gerhard Gundermann. Starting in 1980, Feuersteine played fair-style programmes (a mixture of "concert, ideas conference, playground, dance tea"), gave school and children's concerts (including the 1986 rock fairy tale 'Die kleine Malvine'). From 1979 to 1982 Brigade Feuerstein was a regular guest at the Festival des politischen Liedes in Berlin. The Democratic Tango was recorded at the 11th festival in 1981.

From 1980 to 1988 the event series 'Feuerstein's Music-Podium' took place in the Hoyerswerdaer Jugendklubhaus, in which artists from all over the country performed (songwriters, folk groups, jazz musicians etc.). From 1983 to 1988, the Feuerstein Brigade created circus programmes for children at the FDJ Song Summer in Berlin. In 1989 the group disbanded. Gerhard Gundermann had already separated from her before and continued to work as a soloist and with various bands.

The singer-songwriter scene is still at home in Hoyerswerda today: every year since 1997, a singer-songwriter meeting has been held here in November, at which a 'Hoyschrecke' prize is awarded.
