“Live” captures Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at full swing, showcasing the energetic big-band sound that made the group one of the best-known acts of the modern swing revival. Released by Vanguard in 2004, this two-disc set combines a complete live audio album with a concert DVD. The CD contains 17 tracks and more than 71 minutes of performance, including “The Boogie Bumper”, “Jumpin’ Jack”, “I Wanna Be Just Like You (Jungle Book Song)”, “Big Time Operator”, “Minnie the Moocher”, “King of Swing”, “You and Me & the Bottle Makes 3 (Tonight)”, “Mr. Pinstripe Suit” and “Go Daddy-O”. The set also features “Simple Songs”, “So Long Farewell-Goodbye” and “Always Gonna Get Ya”. The DVD presents the concert visually, making the release a particularly entertaining way to experience the band’s stage presence. Led by vocalist and guitarist Scotty Morris, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy deliver a tight combination of brass-driven arrangements, rhythm-section swing and a distinctly modern approach to classic big-band traditions. An excellent live set for swing and jazz fans.
