The title of this compilation is not to be taken literally.
Although some of the 31 songs feature snapping fingers, many merely encourage it. The record is always party-ready. Even though rhythm & blues sets the tone, it's not a full-throttle ride. Wynonie Harris, Jo-Ann Campbell and Eddie Banks play R&B briskly, others like Vernon Green And The Medallions or Jimmy Dell groove. There are also slower numbers.
Ruth Brown pensively sings the blues (“! Don't Know”) and in a big band sound (“Why Don't You Do Right”), while harmonica ace Sonny Boy Williamson is represented with his classic “Help Me”. Other well-known names in the track list include Ike Turner, Elvis Presley, Lavern Baker, Dinah Washington, Gene Vincent and others. The icing on the cake includes obscure recordings by artists such as Merle Kilgore, Eddie Banks and Barbara McNair, while the socially critical country/folk song “Sixteen Tons” is represented twice: once in the 1955 hit version by Tennessee Ernie Ford and once by The Platters. Rock'n'roll, doo wop and ballads complete the excursion into the 1950s and early 1960s. The 38-page booklet, which contains a lot of discographic details, is also visually tastefully presented. The sound is, as usual with Bear Family, great.

Wörtlich zu nehmen ist der Titel dieser Zusammenstellung nicht.
Zwar wird bei einigen der 31 Songs mit den Fingern geschnippt, viele animieren allerdings lediglich dazu. Party-tauglich ist die Platte allemal. Auch wenn Rhythm & Blues den Ton angibt, ist es keine Vollgasrutsche. Wynonie Harris, Jo-Ann Campbell und Eddie Banks spielen den R&B flott, andere wie Vernon Green And The Medallions oder Jimmy Dell groovend. Hinzu kommen langsamere Nummern.
Ruth Brown singt den Blues nachdenklich („! Don't Know") und im Big-Band-Sound („Why Don't You Do Right"), während Mundharmo-nika-Ass Sonny Boy Williamson Nr. 2 mit seinem Klassiker „Help Me" vertreten ist. Rock'n'Roll, Doo Wop und Balladen komplettieren den Ausflug in die 1950er- und frühen 1960er-Jahre. Der wird mit einem 38-seitigen Booklet, das viele diskografische Details enthält, auch optisch geschmackvoll in Szene gesetzt. Der Sound ist, wie bei Bear Family üblich, klasse.
