Roy Orbison: The Sun Years 1956-58

'The Big 0', as his friends called him, who died in December 1988, left behind a current hit album (see issue 5/1989) and recorded many a classic in pop history during the three decades of his career. However, this CD does not present his big hits, but goes back to the beginning when Roy Orbison recorded the first records for the small label Sun Records. At that time, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash were celebrating their breakthrough as Sun artists, and so it was obvious that Orbison also tried his hand at proper rock'n'roll, interspersed with country elements. His own. I think he had to refine his style. This collector's CD compilation features 28 Orbison oldies, including many alternative versions from the Sun archive. Manfred Gillig
