geb. 15. 12. 1928 in Huntsville - Alabama Record Labels: MGM, Decca, Hickory Erster Top Ten Hit: Each Moment (1960) Erster No. 1 Hit: Talk Back Trembling Lips (1963) Ernest Bert Ashworth begann wie so viele seiner Sangeskollegen beim Radio. Er schrieb seine eigenen Songs, zog Anfang der 50er Jahre nach Nashville und erregte dort das Aufsehen von Carl Smith und Little Jimmy Dickens, die einige seiner Songs aufnahmen und ihm einen Schallplattenvertrag mit MGM verschafften. Nach ein paar glücklosen Singles kehrte er 1957 nach Hause zurück. Von dort holte ihn Wesley Rose vom Acuff-Rose Verlag und arrangierte einen Vertrag mit Decca, der späteren MCA. Diesmal klappte es besser. 1960 gelangen ihm gleich zwei Top 10 Hits und nach einem Wechsel zu Hickory stellte sich der erste No. 1 Erfolg ein, der bis heute sein einziger geblieben ist. Bis 1970 blieb er in der Country Hit Parade präsent.
