P. P. Arnold, 1946 in Los Angeles geboren, kam 1966 als Mitglied der Ikettes - der Fördergruppe für Ike und Tina Turner - nach Großbritannien. Sie entschied sich zu bleiben und nachdem sie als Session-Sängerin gearbeitet hatte, unterschrieb sie bei Andrew Oldhams Imme-diate Label. Ihre leidenschaftliche Version von Cat Stevens'The First Cut Is The Deepest' war 1967 ein Top-Twenty-Hit in Großbritannien, aber weitere Chart-Erfolge entgingen ihr - wenn auch nicht ihrer Begleitgruppe, den Nice - trotz eines Albums, Kafunta, produziert von Mick Jagger und Steve Marriott. Sie erschien 1969 in Catch My Soul und 1970 in Jesus Christ Superstar, bevor sie zur Session zurückkehrte.
