"ALLEN BROTHERS"

Die Allen Brüder, Austin Allen, geb. am 7. Feb. 1901 in Sewanee, Tennessee, gest. am 5. Jan. 1959, und Lee Allen, geb. 1. Juni 1906 in Sewanee, Tennessee, gest. am 24. Feb. 1981, waren ein amerikanisches Oldtime Country Duo in den 1920er und 1930er Jahren. Da viele ihrer Songs von der Stadt Chattanooga handelten, wurden sie häufig auch scherzhaft die '„Chattanooga Boys' genannt.

Beide begannen früh, Musikinstrumente zu beherrschen. Austin spielte Banjo und Mundharmonika, während Lee sich auf Gitarre und Kazoo konzentrierte. Als sie sich zu professionellen Musikern gemausert hatten, durch lokale Country, Jazz und Blues Künstler beeinflusst, spielten sie die Mississippi River Region rauf und runter, traten in Chattanooga, Knoxville und Nashville, sowie bei Radiostationen, Medicine-Shows und auf Vaudeville-Bühnen auf. Zwischen 1927 und 1934 hatten sie insgesamt 36 Schallplatten auf dem Markt, vor allem Rags und Blues, mit oftmals zeitbezogenen aktuellen Texten. Nach ihrer Trennung 1934 blieb Austin in New York City, während Lee zurück nach Tennessee ging.
