Lynn Vernon – Moon Rocket
Lynn Vernon (sometimes spelled Lyn Vernon) was one of the great unknown guitarists out of Memphis, Tennessee. He started in the post-WWII era playing jazz and big band music. For about two decades he was a member of pianist Irving Evans' orchestra playing at the exclusive Summit Club in Memphis five nights a week. Soon after he became a TV regular on the show 'Good Morning From Memphis' on WREC TV that was co-hosted by Fred Cook and Gordon Lawhead, with news, conversation and a live band featuring Lynn Vernon. Besides these gigs Vernon found time to teach young Elvis-soundalikes how to play guitar and to make recordings for Memphis labels. The instrumental Moon Rocket was issued on the local Cover label as Cover 5932 in March 1959.
