Vangelis composed the soundtrack to Ridley Scott's science fiction masterpiece Blade Runner in 1982. The Greek musician, who won an Oscar with the music for "The Winner's Hour", among others, and was a household name in this country by 1995 at the latest, when boxing world champion Henry Maske chose "Conquest of Paradise" as his entrance music, creates haunting soundscapes from dark, melodic synthesizer compositions and whispered dialogue set pieces that perfectly reflect the film's spooky atmosphere. The complete soundtrack was released on CD for the first time in 1994.

Kevin Gray undertook the remastering in his Cohearant Audio Studios and was delighted with the spectacular sound quality. He even published a short film about his work process on the video portal youtube. He points out that he left the 25 Hz bass, which gave the film an evil atmosphere at times, in the recording. This would not have been dared at the time of the film's release, as the often plastic tonearms of the early 1980s would simply have been overwhelmed. Following the great success of the red 180g LP, Blade Runner is now also being released as a hybrid SACD. As a small nod to the LP, this comes in a transparent red tray and the booklet also features the photos from the LP gatefold cover.
