"Sonny & Cher"

Salvatore Bono, geboren am 12. Februar 1935 in Detroit, und Cherilyn Sakasian la Pierre aus El Centro, Kalifornien, trafen sich bei einer Aufnahmesession für die Ronettes, wo Sonny" den Produzenten Phil Spector unterstützte, und heirateten 1963. Sonny hatte große musikalische Erfahrung, und The Searchers brachte seine mitgeschriebenen'Needles and Pins' 1964 in die Charts. Er und Cher nahmen ursprünglich als Caesar und Cleo auf, etablierten sich aber ein für alle Mal als Sonny & Cher, als'I Got You Babe', geschrieben, arrangiert und produziert von Sonny, im Sommer'65 weltweit an die Spitze der Charts fuhr. Ihr ursprüngliches Label Reprise Records reagierte mit der Wiederveröffentlichung eines Cäsar- und Cleo-Tracks'Baby Don't Go', der im nächsten Monat in die Top Ten schoss, und für die nächsten acht Jahre veröffentlichten Sonny & Cher als Duo weiterhin Hits wie'Little Man','What Now My Love' und Sonny's klassischer Überblick über die Popkultur,'The Beat Goes On', der 1967 das vielleicht größte Musikjahr von allen einleitete. Natürlich etablierte Cher gleichzeitig ihre eigene erfolgreiche Solokarriere (schließlich erzielte sie drei Nr. 1-Singles), und die Fernsehshow des Duos im Jahr 1972 brachte den Einfluss ihres freundlichen, farbenfrohen "Flower-Power"-Humors und ihrer Garderobe zu neuen Höhen.
