Joanie Sommers was one of the distinctive voices of American popular music in the early 1960s. “The Complete Warner Bros. Singles” gathers 36 recordings on two CDs from her Warner Bros. years, revealing an artist whose range extended far beyond her best-known hit “Johnny Get Angry”. The collection opens with “Kookie’s Love Song”, her duet with Edd Byrnes, and continues with early singles such as “One Boy”, “I’ll Never Be Free”, “Be My Love”, “Why Don’t You Do Right”, “Ruby-Duby-Du” and “Makin’ Whoopee”. Naturally, “Johnny Get Angry” is included, along with Sommers’ recording of the “Theme From A Summer Place”. The second disc features “A Little Bit Of Everything”, “June Is Busting Out All Over”, “Little Girl Bad”, “Wishing Well”, “Big Man”, “If You Love Him” and “Don’t Pity Me”, among others. Released by Real Gone Music in 2011, this two-CD set brings together Sommers’ Warner Bros. single output in one comprehensive collection. A rewarding release for collectors of early-60s pop, sophisticated vocal music and classic American girl-pop.
