In the early days of sound film, Fritz Schulz, born in Karlsbad (not to be confused with the pianist Fritz Schulz-Reichel), is one of the most productive German screen comedians. "Madonna, where are you?" from the film of the same name he sings in 1933 for the gramophone, for which he has been recording songs since 1930. Like many of his artist colleagues, Fritz Schulz left Hitler's Germany in 1933. He immigrated via Austria to Switzerland. There he worked for the theatre, later also for television.
