"The German text by Friedrich Löhner/Beda has made "Bananas of all things" a huge success - at a time when bananas are real luxury and almost prohibitively expensive. This popular hit is one of many that Efim Schachmeister and his musicians play in 1924. The recordings of this orchestra fill the DGG/Polydor catalogues - page by page! This shows his success and his popularity with the audience. After Hitler's assumption of power, Schachmeister flees to the Netherlands, where he continues to earn his living as head of the orchestra. A little later he emigrates to South America.
