Available again!!!!! Honestly, retro blues has been boring me. Once a synonym for down-to-earth, honest blues with respect for the traditions, 'retro' today more or less means lame, uninspired reproductions of original 1950s urban blues (notably from Chicago or Memphis). This has been my opinion until: NOW. As I am writing this, San Pedro Slim's second CD is spinning. And WOW! This is one of the finest (traditional style) albums I have heard in a long, long while. Produced by the one-and-only, Rick Holmstrom, Slim has recorded a blistering set of his own tunes. He wrote all the songs and he has drawn the 'real life' illustrations (reminding me of Charles Buckowski's novels). Holmstrom plays some of the meanest guitars, ever recorded. Slim's a solid vocalist and accomplished harp player. With its 'brutal' sounds, the title tarck alone is worth the money. This CD is a must-have for all fans of straight-ahead, no-nonsense blues from westcoast. If you are digging James Harman, or Rod Piazza you will love this guy!
