Chuck Royal And The Sharpsters

Chuck Royal is one of the great unknowns in this compilation. He released two 45 rpm singles, one on Blue Moon and the other on Bella. Chuck was accompanied by The Sharpsters on both records. We don’t know if The Sharpsters are Clyde Arnold’s Sharps (the sound is pretty close) or if Joe Scalia could be a member of The Sharpsters. At least Scalia had written all songs for Chuck Royal. The Blue Moon single, You’re Like A Butterfly b/w Blue Moon Keep On Shining, came in 1958, followed by the Bella platter, My Baby’s Gone b/w Beneath The Moon, in January of 1959. The three songs featured here are pure rockabilly. You’re Like A Butterfly is a faster swinging dance number with nice female harmony vocals that remind me of Linda Roth’s voice and a swinging slap bass, while Blue Moon Keep On Shining (probably an ode to the label) is a medium country
bopper that has nothing in common with Blue Moon Of Kentucky as one might have thought. My Baby’s Gone is a faster dance bopper with a fine saxophone solo.
