Paul and Paula. In the time of Kennedy optimism, America's dream of what her youth should be was symbolized by young duos like Paul and Paula and Dick and Deedee. Paul (born in 1940 as Ray Hildebrand) and Paula (born Jill Jack-son in 1942) took the cute 'Hey Paula' to the top of the American charts in 1962, and followed it up with 'Young Lovers' which made the Top Ten in both Britain' and America the next year. Their unisex sweaters, with `P' embroidered on them, started a national craze. Their following releases, 'First Quarrel', 'Something Old, Something New' and 'First Day Back At School', never recaptured their initial success.
