Chicago-born Anita O'Day began her musical career in the 1940s with the Gene Krupa Band and the Stan Kenton Band. It was during this time that she celebrated her first major successes with 'And Her Tears Flowed Like Wine' and 'Tampico', which enabled her to establish herself as a solo artist. With a variety of musical accompaniments, including the Oscar Peterson Trio, Barney Kessel Jimmy Rowles, Tal Farlow and Roy Eldridge, our four classic albums showcase a unique vocal talent that put Anita in line with Billie, Ella and Mildred Bailey and later influenced such great singers as June Christy and Chris Connor.

All four albums have been digitally remastered and are probably available in the best sound quality ever!

Anita O'Day & The Three Sounds – In Other Words (Fly Me To The Moon)

Anita O'Day's real name was Anita Belle Colton. She is one of the most famous female American jazz singers in musical history, in large part because of her great sense of rhythm and dynamics as this version of Fly Me To The Moon, also known as In Other Words, shows. Her version starts smooth and sentimental but switches into a dynamic, swinging dance rhythm a few times before reverting to its smooth beginnings. This track was originally issued in 1962 on Verve LP V-8514, simply entitled 'Anita O'Day & The Three Sounds.’
