The story of The New Seekers, is perhaps unique in the highly competitive world of popular music. It was the quest to reach the top by a re-formed band whose every effort would be compared with its established, highly successful predecessor, The Seekers. The New Seekers were launched in the Summer of 1969 by original Seeker Keith Potger to continue where the former group left off. They gradually changed the folksy image of the original Seekers and developed a more contemporary sound that brought them world acclaim.

In May 1971 they topped the bill at the London Palladium with their highly polished act that included singing, comedy, acting and dancing. Their performance resulted in unanimous raves from the critics and 'Seekers Fever' everywhere. A major concert tour of Britain featuring their own two-hour show was a complete sell-out. Shortly after this they were chosen to sing at the 1971 Royal Command Performance at the London Palladium.

Then came I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing, a song which started out under the title of `True Love And Apple Pie' written by Cook and Greenaway. New words and musical score were adapted from it for a Coca Cola commercial with the collaboration of American writers Backer and Davis. It was popular on both sides of the Atlantic and was released by public demand as a single with slight alteration of the words.

The original Coca Cola version was recorded almost 12 months previously and the modestly converted commercial became a chart topping spectacular in every part of the globe. In 1972 they were selected to represent Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest with Beg Steal Or Borrow - the song was a close second.

The New Seekers were now international entertainers appearing on all the top T.V. shows all over the world especially in America. They gave their farewell concert tour of Britain in May 1974. Up to that time they had sold an estimated 25 million records around the world.
