The album was recorded over three weeks at RCA Studio A in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb on 8-track, giving the songs an analog warmth that reflects the originality of Nelson's songwriting.

Listening to "A Few Stars Apart," it's clear he's absorbed the lyricism of his Texas heroes. Yet there's a lightness to these recordings that perhaps stems from his own formative experiences in Maui, where he spent much of his childhood and is now mostly at home.
