Who was/is Herbert 'Woo Woo' Moore ? - CDs, Vinyl LPs, DVD and more

Herbert 'Woo Woo' Moore

There is very little known about Herbert 'Woo Woo' Moore, aside from the fact that he was obviously a talented boogie-based pianist. In October 1950,
Dr. Daddy-O noted in his Boogie-Beat Jive column in 'The Louisiana Weekly' that 'Woo Woo' was taking over at the 'Club Desire' when Fats Domino left town to promote Every Night About This Time with Dave Bartholomew's band. According to Jeff Hannusch, Moore was Tommy Ridgley's pianist for a time when Tommy was first starting his own band, but apparently he lost the job due to a drinking problem.

Thankfully, before he disappeared from the R&B scene, 'Woo Woo' recorded two fine songs for Mercury. Something’s Wrong is a superb funny rocker in the stop-time style of Willie Mabon's very influential I Don't Know that more closely resembles Sugarboy Crawford's What's Wrong of the same vintage. Five Long Letters is very much in Domino’s triplet blues style, but is nonetheless outstanding. Sadly, Moore’s record did nothing and he was likely seldom heard performing again, save by his family and friends.
