Vaughn Monroe

Vaughn Monroe (1911-1973) wollte Opernsänger werden. Während des Gesangstudiums verdiente er sich seinen Lebensunterhalt als Trompeter. 1933 brach er das Studium ab und schloß sich zunächst dem Orchester von Austin Wylie an. 1940 gründete er ein Orchester, mit dem er seinen ersten Schlagererfolg - There I Go - einspielte, der drei Wochen lang die amerikanische Hitparade anführte. Weitere Hits folgten, bis Monroe Ende der vierziger Jahre sein Orchester auflöste, um sich in Hollywood als singender Cowboy zu versuchen
