Die Band, die sich Anfang der 50er Jahre formierte, nannte sich nach ihrem Hauptrepertoire "Musik für Mama und Papa". In den ersten Jahren ihrer Geschichte war die Band nur eine Teilzeitbeschäftigung mit ihren Mitgliedern, die unter der Woche mehr typische Jobs hatten.

Den größten Ruhm erlangte die Band in Kanada, wo sie als Discjockey bei einem leistungsstarken Radiosender in Great Falls, Montana, ihre erste Aufnahme, The Ranger's Waltz, ein Lied von Quentin Ratliff, dem Saxophonisten der Gruppe, spielte. Diese Sendung wurde in der kanadischen Provinz Alberta ausgestrahlt, und auch in Australien haben sie sich einen Namen gemacht.
