Moin
"Not only contemporary history and nostalgia, but also a high level of playfulness and singing." ('FolkWorld' 22/2002)
Moin! this is not only an exuberant North German greeting, but was also the name of a then very well known folk band from Schleswig-Holstein in the 70s. In October 1974 the trio performed for the first time with songs, ballads and dances. Jutta Schmeck (today Mensing), Mense Schwitters and Manfred Jaspers wanted to give new and current impulses to the tradition of German folk music and, as Jaspers says, above all to awaken the Low German folk songs from their slumber: "Only then, in the course of the waking kiss, it turned out that there were not so many kissable song princesses either. Then I stumbled upon the volume of poems 'Quickborn' by our local poet Klaus Groth from Schleswig-Holstein on my stalk through the scene at that time like relevant libraries and antiquarian bookshops, and lo and behold, one or two poems wanted to be made musically happy. I generously revived about half a dozen, including the aforementioned 'Vullmachts Öllste', as I was then. And since the simple story leaves a lot of room for fantasy, my music invited to sing along and there was almost always a female being called 'Kathrina' or 'Christin' in the audience - the name of the 'youngest' was rather frequently changing - this song has inevitably become something like an evergreen up here behind the dikes."
In Moin's active time, there was only one long-playing record that was long out of stock. In 2001 the recording of a concert from December 1978 was released as a double CD under the title 'Moin - Live in Kreuzthal', which gives an overview of the repertoire of the North German group.
